Amighty punch from Joanne Ruocco, Leburn Maddox, Mark Zaig and guest musicians who are caught playing in unison full of high uplifting energy, funk and rock grooves to its finest.

 Just off the cuff, with no rehearsals, this video is not to be missed!

Leburn Maddox is from New Jersey similar to Ms Joanne Ruocco, who has spent many years sharing bills with famous artists. He has supported artists such as, Chaka Khan, Patti La Belle, Chic, Kool & the Gang, Mother's Finest, Gil Scott Heron and many more. Together with these three Musicians, there is no stopping them producing a sublime performance.

Ronnie Wood, Bobby Womack and Jojo, Joanne Ruocco, Part 1, 'Solid Wood' .

Come join me at Planet Drum Magazine Link, to read about my inserts from my upcoming Memoir titled, Beautiful Confusion, and Joanne Jojo Ruocco.

Starting with a summary from one of my chapters called 'Solid Wood', explaining how I was first introduced to both Bobby Womack and Ronnie and his former wife Jo Wood and how I became Bobby Womack's Drummer / Percussionist. Later I played drums with Ronnie Wood and his brother Art and maintain our friendships throughout the years.

Enjoy the read, and I look forward hearing your comments!

Catch up with Ginger Baker at the Rose Theatre , June 5th 2013 !!

I caught Ginger Baker last night at the Rose Theatre, in Kingston, SW London. It was an incredible evening, I found myself tapping to the drumming and percussion, in various 6/8, 2/4, 4/4 and 3-2 son clave patterns. Excellent percussion and drum solos, from Ginger and Abbass Dodoo, these guys are speaking in unison.

Of course Ginger's famous shuffle-triplets in between drum breaks left his signature trail. Tight arrangements and drum breaks, impressive for an un-rehearsed band.

Abass Dodoo, is full of spiritual energy; he shakes away unwanted negative energies that may be in the atmosphere. Check out his supporting constant rhythms, example;

12/8 version “Kakilambe”, a western version of a common African rhythm.
A) Playing with a "rolling" feel.

B)  Playing a mixture of open and closed slap tones, in between the center and the rim of the conga drums, adds a distinctive sound.
C) Be sure to have fun!

Jazz Confusion are; Abass Dodoo on Percussion, Alex Dankworth on Bass and Pee Wee Ellis on Sax.

I went away feeling uplifted. I can't help admiring Ginger's courage, facing his many ups and downs, these he shares in his new book 'Hell Raiser'; we all have a journey to take, and various obstacles to overcome, yet it’s the strength that is established by our wounds, during our positive moments, that makes us who we are; this is the driving force that enables us to appreciate inner happiness; well earned.

Accepting life’s toughest challenges brings forth the skill and strength to deliver such a mighty performance.

Joanne Ruocco "Jojo"

Planet Drum Launches Joanne Ruocco Blog !!

http://lnx.planet-drum.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=868%3Asolid-wood-part-1&catid=69&Itemid=191

What Planet Drum have to say;

After meeting Joanne via LinkdIn and exchainging with her many incredible musical ideas, we decided to start a cooperation that would lead us in creating this blog. An opportunity that will hopefully and definitelly open the doors of the British drummer's community to our magazine and, on the other side, will give Joanne notority among the Italian drummers.
Jo Jo Ruocco, who grew up in New Jersey, started as a percussionist at a really early age: 13 to be precise, drumming with Jazz giant Duke Ellington! She went on to provide drummery for Chuck Berry at the age of 16, then went on to play with Bobby Womack, Billy Ocean, Ronnie Wood, The Style Council, amongst many others! We hear about her great career, and her tastes in music across the decades.
